THE YOGA OF BIRTH Path of Effort, Path of Grace conception, pregnancy, labour and beyond; a five day yogic workshop with Katie Manitsas
Yoga is often described as being both a ‘path of effort’ and a ‘path of grace’. This model of understanding spirituality is the perfect metaphor for the realm of conception, pregnancy, childbirth and parenting in the first year. The process of bringing a new being into the world requires enormous dedication and effort. What other job asks you to offer your physical strength, stamina and total focus twenty four hours a day, seven days a week?
Course structure, and suggested participation: The first three days (Monday to Wednesday) of the workshop are open to everyone – especially pregnant women, partners, yoga teachers, doulas, midwifes, nurses and child birth educators are welcomed. We invite you to join us to explore how pregnancy and childbirth and those first few early months can be a precious, beautiful time for baby, parents and carers alike. If you are experiencing a difficult and tumultuous pregnancy, if you are nervous about labour and unsure about how you will cope with a newborn we especially welcome you! If you are working or generally busy we really encourage you to take these three days as a ‘retreat in the city’. Minimise your other commitments and take the time out and off work to really focus on these powerful and life changing teachings. We can suggest lots of nearby accommodation options for those of you traveling from further afield.
The last two days (Thursday and Friday) of the training are open to YOGA TEACHERS ONLY and during this time we will look more intensively at the practices suitable for pregnant and post-natal women. We will also learn about how yoga can support couples who are having problems conceiving. These two days will only be open to those who have attended the first three days.
