The Samadhi Yoga Mentoring Program (teacher training level 2)
'You must cultivate your practice over an extended period of time, it must be steady without gaps, and it must be done correctly - for then a firm foundation is laid.' Yoga Sutra 1:14 translation by Geshe Michael Roach and Christie McNully
About the program: The Samadhi Yoga Mentoring program is designed to give individual attention to new teachers as well as those wanting to reinvigorate their teaching established practice. The program spans nine months and is designed to give impetus to an inquisitive, insightful and self-reflective teaching practice that will last a lifetime.
How will it work? Whilst the curriculum will be set by the Samadhi Yoga teaching faculty, the process of study will be self-directed, allowing the student to put into practice some of Patanjali’s eight limbs, by cultivating tapas (discipline) and svadhyaya (self-study). In order to participate we would expect students to have lots of initiative and commitment which will work along side the guidance given from the program to help inspire you in your own efforts at home practice. You will get the most from the program if you are already teaching … at least 1 or 2 classes on a regular basis (this could include informal classes that you teach from home to your friends).
You will have face-to-face contact with the course mentors (Katie Manitsas and Sue White) at course-specific workshops, mentoring meetings and when you assist in or attend their classes. In addition to this contact there will also be communication with the mentors via email and internet. You will be able to post questions and your homework assignments on our ‘message board’ page. You will receive comprehensive feedback on your work via audio recordings, which your mentors will post on your own private page on our message board system. Your mentor will be recording this feedback specifically for you, almost like a one-way telephone conversation! We will give you lots of support and clear guidance on how to use this system (don’t worry if you’re not technologically minded, we aren’t either!). Your page will be personal to you which only yourself and your mentors will be able to view, with each student having their own personal access code.
As part of the course you will be required to record some of your classes for one of the mentors to listen to and provide in depth individually tailored feedback. This might sound like a nerve-racking prospect but it’s a very effective way to improve your teaching skills and re-visit teaching methodology as it becomes more appropriate in your personal teaching experience. We can help provide the equipment for this if you need it.
In the first week of the program we will have a group meeting for all the mentorees and tutors and we will go through exactly what will be expected in terms of study, what the program will involve and how we’ll be able to assist you in your training. At this time your assignments will be set and explained to you.
This program is open to all Samadhi yoga teacher-training graduates (Click here for Level 1 Teacher Training information). If you are a graduate of a different teacher-training program we will require that you sit the Samadhi Level 1 exam prior to application. This is not to grade you, but to determine your knowledge base and potentially suggest further reading and study material. Once the exam is completed we will then discuss with you your eligibility to apply. We are keen to accept applicants from various backgrounds, we will do everything we can to support you in making a successful application.

Katie currently assesses the Wise Earth correspondence course in Australia. Her broad background is reflected in her classes, which are as much about atmosphere as they are about asana (postures). Her classes incorporate music and inspirational readings as well as elements of breathing practice and meditation. Katie has trained in the UK, U.S., India and Australia. She is the author of ‘Spiritual Survival in the City’.
Sue White Sue is a Samadhi-trained teacher who practices and teaches a flowing style of hatha yoga.
